“I am halfway through my second WOW course, and wanted to take a moment to tell you how completely satisfied I am with your workshops. I started investigating fiction last winter, and took three classes at Gotham Writers Workshops. I was delighted with my first, having never done an online workshop before; happy with my second, but by my third, I realized that they lack both the depth of resources and level of faculty needed to really create a successful learning experience. How did I figure this out? I took one of your 6 week courses, Advanced Short Fiction Writing, with Mark Spencer. It was terrific, allowing for great interaction with both teacher and students; it filled in all of the holes I’d experienced elsewhere.

And then I signed up for Accelerated Fundamentals of Fiction Writing, again with Mark, and have been blown away. The amount of information provided is wonderful. The lecture supplements are fantastic. The exercises are well-designed and really teach the topic. In the case of my instructor, I cannot say enough. He is responsive, articulate, helpful and engaged, qualities I found in short supply elsewhere.”

“I want to thank you for a great experience. From beginning to end the content (lectures, lecture supplements, discussions and instructions) of this workshop [Focus on the Novel] was impressive. I would like to point out that Instructor Barbara Rogan was a major part of it’s success.

She created a dynamic environment with:
- thought-provoking lecture discussions full of extra writing tips
- constructive personal feedback, as well as helpful suggestions on improvement of submitted assignements
- engaging participants – drawing us in, urging us on and expecting everyone of us to participate in discussing valuable writing topics.

Once again, thanks for a great adventure!”

“I have nothing but good things to say about the Advanced Novel Writing Workshop. I was at wits end trying to get meaningful feedback about my novel and didn’t know where to turn. Without knowing an editor, I felt stifled during revision. Here I had a chance to get feedback from an experienced author/teacher of writing as well as several peer-critics, many of whom. gave me great suggestions. I made meaningful changes to my story and the experience was good. I not only grew as a writer but also got the affirmation that, with changes, my story was saleable and meaningful.”

“I recently took your class 1052, Accelerated Fundamentals Of Fiction Writing. I’m truly satisfied with the content, instructions and results. I think the Writers Online is a great concept. First time I tried it – will surely return in the future.”

“I just finished the eight week class Essentials of Writing Personal Essays II: Advanced and loved it. I have taken classes through University of Washington – online classes, Gotham and Writers Online Workshops. Of all the classes, (all in essay/creative non-fiction) this is by far the best one I have ever taken. The written materials were good but I learned the most from Instructor Kempton. She took so much time and effort to really evaluate the work, provide constructive criticism and make meaningful suggestions. It is clear that she spent a lot of time reading the pieces and responding at a thoughtful and significant level. I feel that I have reached the “next stage” in my writing due to her evaluations and suggestions. I had the “a-ha” moment in my writing – and I have previously been published.”

John DeChancie, the workshop leader, proved to be an insightful and generous leader. He is a very good reader and gave me feedback which was very helpful and led to changes in my draft that left me with two stories I believe to be better than when I submitted them. I would not hesitate to take another workshop with him.”

“I can’t thank you enough. The course was challenging and I’m proud I finished it. This is my second class and I would recommend WG to all. Mark Spencer is a delight.”
