Advanced Short Fiction Writing

Continue to build your short fiction writing skills, receive feedback from a published short story writer, and experience the support and encouragement of an online critique group.

Please note: This workshop is for fiction writers only. If you are interested in writing nonfiction articles or personal essays, please check out the Advanced Short Nonfiction Writing Workshop.

In this course you will:
  • Work with a published short story writer and online critique group to improve your writing skills
  • Submit up to 9000 words in up to 3 installments for instructor and group critique

To get the most from this workshop you should:
  • Have completed Focus On The Short Story workshop or equivalent course
  • Complete your first story submission prior to the course start date

Course Structure
The workshop will consist of three two-week sessions. There will be no lectures, reading assignments or exercises for this workshop, but we’ll give you plenty of tips and reminders along the way.
In this workshop, you can submit up to 9,000 words in up to three installments to the instructor for review and for group critique. That means you can submit three short stories of 3,000 words each, or two stories of 4,500 words each, or one story of 9,000 words. It’s completely up to you!
Because you will be expected to submit your work at the beginning of each session, you should have your first story submission prepared prior to the class start date. (1.2 CEUs)
